However, the island is also known for its poor air quality, which means that it is often covered in a thick layer of smog, which can lead to health problems and a reduced quality of life for residents and tourists.  <\/p>\n<p>The sources of air pollution in Cyprus are manifold: the transportation sector, industry, the energy sector and waste management are the main culprits. Another important source is particulate matter emissions from years of forest fires that ravage the island state every year during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>The Cypriot authorities are trying to improve air quality by passing laws to regulate emissions from these sources. Citizens can also play their part by using environmentally friendly means of transportation, saving energy and reducing waste.
