Emigrate

Why Cyprus of all places

Few know Cyprus, or had the island so far on the radar. At the same time, Cyprus is currently still considered an insider tip, although it has long offered insiders some very decisive advantages over other emigration destinations. Although Cyprus is not part of the Schengen area, it is a full member of the European Union. Thus, the dream of emigrating to Cyprus attracts those who have been well advised and informed. Especially as a European, moving is easy. But also not least because of its Mediterranean ambience and tax advantages Cyprus attracts more and more company founders, individuals and families. Perpetual travelers in particular, but also internationally active entrepreneurs from a wide range of sectors, benefit from the favorable taxation. Special regulations and incentives for industries in trading, consulting, coaching, eCommerce and IT benefit from setting up a company on the island. Currently, the trend is shifting from other jurisdictions such as Dubai, Malta, Spain and even Monaco to Cyprus, as it often offers better tax incentives and conditions for emigration or company formation.

60 days rule

In Cyprus, the usual 183-day rule does not apply; instead, 60 days of minimum stay per year is sufficient to obtain non-dom status and thus the considerable tax benefits. These days do not have to be spent consecutively, which gives you every freedom for further stays abroad. Exactly this means that the tax liability for the worldwide income already takes effect after 60 days of stay in Cyprus. Provided that there is no residence in another country of more than 183, Cyprus remains the tax residence. Thus, Cyprus offers a special exception to the usual rules. So if you find it too hot here in the summer and too cold in the winter, you can confidently spend your time elsewhere.

What else does Cyprus have to offer

Besides all the tax advantages, the island of Cyprus has a lot of attractions to offer. It is worth exploring different parts of the island, e.g. on day trips. In addition to picturesque hiking trails through forests and small mountain villages, there are impressive monasteries and historic barn-roofed churches to discover in the Troodos Mountains. The mountain villages of Omodos, Lefkara and Kakopetria exude their own charm. For those interested in history, the regions around Paphos, Lemesos and Famagusta with their archaeological sites are of great importance. The cities of Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos also offer numerous modern stores and large shopping malls.

Cyprus also beckons with endless sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, majestic cedar forests and bustling port towns. The Kykkos Monastery, high up in the Troodos Mountains at 1140 meters, attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. Other monasteries such as Machairas, Agia Napa and Agia Thekla are also worth a visit.

Nicosia, the capital and also the last divided capital in the world, hosts the border between North and South Cyprus. A day tour of Nicosia allows you to explore the narrow streets and alleys of the old town. Especially worth seeing is the caravanserai büyük han on the north side of the old town, which was built in 1572.

A trip to the royal tombs of Nea Paphos is like a journey into the past. This necropolis was not only the final resting place of influential Ptolemies, but also served as a refuge for persecuted Christians on the island. Since 1980, the City of the Dead has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On a trip to Northern Cyprus you can explore the historic old town of Famagusta, the ruins of the ancient kingdom of Salamis and the monastery of Saint Barnabas. A visit to the ghost town of Varosha is also recommended. In the five fortresses high up in the mountains, you have a breathtaking view of the entire island. The castles of St. Hilarion and Bufavento also offer a view of the fortress built by the Venetians in the port city of Kyrenia. A side trip to the former Bellapais monastery nearby should definitely be on the program.

The Rock of Aphrodite (Petra tou Romiou) is also a popular destination. In this picturesque bay, the striking rock attracts many tourists throughout the year. Couples in love hope that the magic of the goddess of love Aphrodite, who according to legend rose from the sea in this place, will rub off on them.

In the southeast of Cyprus lies the popular resort of Agia Napa with its beautiful beaches. Especially Macronissos Beach outside the village in a bay is a jewel and is mainly visited by young vacationers and families with children. Here you can enjoy fine white sand and turquoise sea, which gives Caribbean flair. Landa Beach and Nissi Beach are also worth a visit.

Not far from Agia Napa is the seaside resort of Protaras, which calls the enchanting Konnos Bay its own. The beach in the pine-covered bay shimmers golden and offers the best conditions for those seeking relaxation. On the way there, you can stop by Cape Greko, a rock with a magnificent view of the south and east coast.

In addition, of course, there are many other attractions and interesting things to discover. On our site you will find more inspiration and galleries and ways to pass the time.
