Cyprus earthquake

Earthquakes are not uncommon in Cyprus. Due to its geological position, the island can be frequently affected by tectonic activity. However, most earthquakes in Cyprus are minor and do not cause any damage. However, there are also examples of more severe earthquakes that have caused major damage. A notable event occurred in 1996, when a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Paphos, damaging numerous buildings. In response, the Cypriot authorities took extensive measures to reinforce the buildings in the affected areas and make them safer. An early warning system was also set up to alert the population to emerging hazards. However, it is still important that residents and visitors to Cyprus prepare for possible earthquakes and take measures to protect themselves and others.
