Shipwrecks around Cyprus

The island of Cyprus is known for its rich history and its role in Mediterranean trade. Part of this history are the many shipwrecks that have sunk around the island over the centuries. These wrecks are often hidden deep under the water and are a popular destination for divers and treasure hunters.

Some of the most exciting shipwrecks around Cyprus are located near the port of Limassol. The ship Zenobia sank in the 1980s and still lies at the bottom of the sea. It is one of the most famous wrecks in the region and a paradise for experienced divers.

Another exciting wreck is the ship Elpida, which sank in 2000. However, access is difficult as it is located near a Greek-Turkish conflict zone.

In addition to the historical delights these shipwrecks provide, they are also important habitats for many species of marine life. Especially corals that settle on the wrecks offer a unique environment that gives divers and nature lovers fascinating insights into life under water.

Shipwrecks are therefore more than just the remains of ships from times long past. They are an important part of history and at the same time provide an opportunity to explore the wonders of the underwater world.
