Cypriot cuisine

Cypriot cuisine is known for its rich blend of flavors and influences from different cultures, including Greek, Turkish, Lebanese and Egyptian. One of the most popular dishes is moussaka, which consists of thinly sliced potatoes, eggplants, minced meat and béchamel sauce and is baked in the oven. Another famous Cypriot dish is souvlaki, marinated meat skewers grilled over charcoal, typically served with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. Other popular dishes include kleftiko (slow-braised lamb or goat), halloumi cheese (made from sheep’s and goat’s milk) and avgolemono soup (a lemon and egg soup with chicken or rice). Cypriot cuisine also includes a variety of meze (small dishes) that are perfect for sharing with friends and family. These include grilled vegetables, dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) and keftedes (meatballs).
